Lara Abounayan is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#107180) who graduated with her Masters in Counseling, specializing in marriage and family therapy, from California State University, Northridge.
Lara worked at the Armenian Relief Society’s Child, Youth, and Family Guidance Center before entering private practice. She has worked with a broad range of clients; individuals (ages 6-65), couples, and families. Her work has focused heavily on anxiety and trauma, ranging from immigration trauma, to sexual and physical abuse.
She has a great deal of experience working with families, particularly when children are experiencing behavioral issues. She has also worked with clients working through depression, chronic illness, and relationship difficulties.
She has been trained in evidence based practices such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy and Seeking Safety.
She is bilingual in English and Armenian and has experience conducting therapy in both languages.
Lara is currently facilitating two groups:
· Young adults living with chronic illness group
· Teen anxiety group
